Mount Ellinor Professional Review and Guide

"Hikers swarm Mount Ellinor every spring as they rush to the summit for one reason—to come back down. More specifically, to come down via the long glissade route."

I started the hike from the upper upper trail head. The trail is very well maintained. Steps have been cut into the trail and shored up with timbers. It is quite steep but relatively short. The terrain is absolutely beautiful. The wildlife is great too. Saw lots of grouse and several mountain goats. I would definitely recommend it. However, it is strenuous.

Absolutely spectacular views from the summit. Shared them with mountain goats galore. On the way down be sure to cool off in Lake Cushman, which is clear, clean and not at all cold in September.

Trail was great. I came within 10 yards of two mountain goats. To summit you need poles, ice ax not necessary. The slide down was worth the effort and the view was fantasic. I had a great experience.

Ellinor has two options. An upper and lower trail head. If you are new to hiking start at the upper trail head unless you are in very good shape. Either way you are in for a workout. You climb, and climb and then climb some more. Bring LOTS of water and a camera (aside from your 10 essentials). Even before arriving at the summit there are some awesome views of Lake Cushman and beyond. Once you reach the summit you will have a 360 degree view and on a clear day can see sky scrapers in Seattle. Its an amazing hike and worth the sore legs. Try it and enjoy!!
