Tumwater Pipeline Trail

Tumwater Pipeline Trail Professional Review and Guide

"This is a short and easy hike, and some hikers may choose to combine it with another hike in the Leavenworth area. The trail is not well publicized but you may have noticed an old metal bridge spanning Tumwater Canyon just before you get to Leavenworth and wondered about it.

I stopped and discovered a trail on the other side of the bridge that makes a pleasant spring hike. You are more likely to encounter locals here than hikers from the west side, as the trail is close to Leavenworth and is a local favorite. It is also suitable for family outings."

I had high hopes for this trail. The trail is the remains of the old pipeline which has been removed. The first 1/2 mile are about as good as it gets. The trail start by crossing a bridge which is a 1/2 pipe from the old pipeline. It's pretty cool and over beautiful veiws. After that - well. There aren't many veiws of the river. The highway noise from across the river carries over during most of the hike. There are few accesses to the river but not advisable for swimming. You can dip your feet though. At the parking lot there is a beach which is very nice, also has nice veiws and is swimable. But also crowded. If you are in the area and just want to stretch your legs - this is the place. I wouldn't make a special trip.
