South Fork Chiwaukum Creek to Lake Flora Professional Review and Guide
"A backpack up South Fork Chiwaukum Creek to Lake Flora and Icicle Ridge. Chiwaukum Creek, one of the major drainages of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, has a reputation of being a long, lonely hike, and the reputation is partly right. This portion of the trail is over 13 miles long and leads to high meadows and lakes that are more readily reached via shorter trails coming up from Icicle Creek, making this a more lonesome hike than others in the area.
The lakes, Flora and Brigham, popularly known as the “Mormon Ladies Lakes,” are set in a high basin at the head of South Fork Chiwaukum Creek. The upper meadows and lakes don’t melt out until midsummer, which is well enough since the fall colors are one of the main attractions. Those who come to see the wildflowers are usually content to turn around in the first 5 miles, or at Timothy Meadow."
