Second Beach

Second Beach Professional Review and Guide

"Just south of the village of La Push are three Olympic Coast charms: First, Second, and Third Beaches. Each one is sandy and broad and hemmed in by dramatic bluffs and headlands.

You can’t hike from one to the next because those headlands block the way. First Beach is in the village. Third Beach requires a 1.3-mile slog down a forested trail. Second Beach is just right: reached by a hike just long enough to add a sense of wildness to its stunning beauty.

Dogs are prohibited."

Hiked down to the beach with our 20 month daughter. She hiked most of the way, which was slow but she loved it. Log jam at the end of the trail where it hits the beach can be an obstacle. I thought it was easy, but my wife didn't like it and had to take it really slow and needed help to climb over it. We camped overnight on the beach. No rain but very windy that night. Don't forget a bear canister as they are required if staying overnight. You can rent one at the ranger station although we had our own. Very beautiful beach. Plan to go at low tide to see the tide pools.
