Triple Falls

Triple Falls Professional Review and Guide

"A unique waterfall lies at the end of this moderate hike, but you don’t have to go that far to see some fine Columbia River Gorge scenery. You can, in fact, just drive by the trailhead and admire Horsetail Falls."

The perfect day for a perfect hike. We were blessed with the rare clear, windless, dry day on the coast. After meandering through a beautiful shady forest, and hiking up to the grassy plateau, the vista is endless. The last mile to the top is somewhat steep, though a slow steady pace will provide an amazing grassy meadow perfect for sitting and ruminating on the wonders of nature.

A very special place on the coast. We visited the lower trail since the upper trail was closed until July 16 due to endangered butterflies. The beginning of the trail consists of a somewhat steeply stepped walk through some nice forest, over a couple foot bridges, up the side of the mountain. After passing through the forested area you approach the Nature Conservancy land (no dogs allowed) and open meadows with extraordinary mountain views overlooking the ocean and Salmon River. You continue to wind along the side of the hill then up a steeper trail toward the top. Bring water; you'll need it by the time you get to the top. We spent about three hours going and coming and would definitely spend more time on our next visit when the meadow should be in bloom.

Absolutely breathtaking views. Its a bit steep toward the top, but so well worth it. Some great old growth at the start of the trail also. One of my favorites
