During summer, the popular beach at O. O. Denny Park is crowded with people overdosing on sun while the sylvan trail up Denny Creek lies forlorn and ignored. That’s too bad, because along with some good representatives of large standing wood is one Douglas fir with a 26.3-foot circumference, which previous writers have claimed to be 600 years old. But you don’t have to be looking for big old trees to enjoy this hike. It’s perfect for a jaunt after work when the only other option is cocktails with co-workers whose idea of the outdoors is either a tennis court or a municipal plunge.
