"Kelly Butte provides some of the most spectacular views in the Cascade foothills, with views enjoyed nearly every step of the way to the summit. And the panoramic splendor is just the beginning. Not only does the expanse of the western Cascades sprawl before your eyes, but wildflowers sprawl before your feet along the entire route. Visit in early summer and you’ll find bear grass along the full length of the trail. Come fall, the trail is sweetened with plump huckleberries. At the top of the climb, a recently refurbished ?re lookout station provides an incredible lesson in forest history to go with the 360-degree views of the forest itself." Read more

"Tackle a 3.4-mile summit hike climbing up to a restored fire lookout with big views of surrounding peaks. The trail begins steeply, climbing past the rocks and crags of the butte. There are two approaches. The old route starts at the end of the logging road, where ropes have been strung to help you up the steep scramble. The new route is much tamer and begins a hundred yards from the road’s end. Either way, the trails quickly connect and switchback through logged meadows dotted with sun-bleached stumps and snags."
