Troublesome Creek Trail

Troublesome Creek Trail Professional Review and Guide

"This marvelous short, old-growth loop trail crosses Troublesome Creek twice within half-mile. Though it is labeled a nature trail, there are no interpretive signs, but you will find plenty of benches at beauty spot viewpoints where parents of small children can pause, rest, and talk about the cycle of renewal in old-growth forest. There is such a magical feel to this place that your children will almost expect to see Hansel and Gretel tiptoeing through the forest ahead of them.

Start your hike on either side of the creek; the loop is good either way. It is described here going counterclockwise. Begin by passing the lower footbridge and starting upstream on the right side. You will travel past old cedars and firs, some of which have been dying back for centuries; they are so enormous, it would require eight to ten children to circle their girth. Ask your children to guess how old the trees might be. Look for young and middle-aged trees interspersed with the ancient ones."
