Road 6310 Jumpoff Ridge

Road 6310: Jumpoff Ridge Professional Review and Guide

"This is a very enjoyable hike. The 360-degree view at the top is tremendous —Mount Index, Mount Persis, Mount Baring, Gunn Peaks, Spire Mountain, and the North Skykomish River valley below.

The road follows Bitter Creek for most of the way and you can hear it trickling or rumbling as you gradually ascend. I also liked the road because I was completely alone, on a Saturday in early summer, and that is getting more and more rare."

Trailhead, as well as FR6310, are completely unmarked. We only located this trail when a nice coffee shop owner in Index showed us the way. On the Green Trails map, it is still shown as a Forest Service road. You start marching up hill as soon as you leave your car, and you really don't stop the up hill bit until you arrive at the top. For those of us not in perfect shape, it's a thigh burner. Trail is in good shape with a couple of obstacle courses thrown in for good measure. A couple of the landslide crossings are not super easy, but kind of fun. The last 1/2 mile of trail is brushy and will be almost impassible in summer if not maintained. Very private though, we only saw two people all day. Epic views from the top!
