Enchanted Valley

Enchanted Valley Professional Review and Guide

"Hike this 26.2-mile round-trip backpack in the southwestern Olympics, one of the state’s classic hikes into a deep rain-forest-blanketed valley. The trail follows the Quinault River from lush rain forest to a classic peak-rimmed basin in Olympic National Park. Miles of wandering lie beyond.

Near the head of the Quinault River lies a narrow valley covered with grassy meadows and shaded by alders and bigleaf maples.White ribbons of water tumble down cliffs that rise nearly a mile above the well-named Enchanted Valley—truly one of the gems of Washington’s backcountry. Come prepared with food canisters, or check on the availability of bear wires to hang your food, as bears are active along this trail."

the only reason I wouldn't rate it better is because of the heat, which is not typical. I like hiking along rivers and streams...EV has them. Water seemed a little low as well

This was my first 2-day backpacking trip and I can't talk this trail up enough. The images of the valley, glacier, clear blue river, enormous trees, the FOOT BRIDGE (yikes!). It's worth the hike. I kept thinking of lunges and squats the whole way to the valley - up hill. The way back was much quicker, even when sore. I suggest taking more than two days (13 miles a day with full packs is a lot for me) to do this hike. Ideally, I'll set up the tent in the valley and take a day or two to explore the glacier and surrounding areas. It's gorgeous.
