Yakima Peak

Yakima Peak Professional Review and Guide

"Yakima Peak forms the northwestern sentinel at Chinook Pass and sometimes offers a refuge from the hordes of early season backcountry skiers at Naches Peak.

From Chinook Pass, head west into the Tipsoo Lakes Basin. Make a climbing traverse, west through forest to the southwestern slopes of Yakima Peak. When you come to glades, climb to their high points and ski. Trees here often protect snow from wind damage.

To reach the summit of Yakima Peak, head north about 0.8 mile west of Chinook Pass until you gain the western ridge (0.1 mile). Then turn right and climb 0.2 mile to the summit. An ice ax is required for the summit pitch."
