This popular trail follows the west side of the White River through thick forest to the main attraction: Skookum Falls. Best views of the falls are during spring runoff or after a big rain storm. The lack of appreciable vertical relief makes the first part of this trail suitable as an out-and-back walk for young children. Views of the river, a plethora of picnic sites both in the forest and along the bluff, and spring wildflowers all contribute to making this a pleasant experience. For through-hikers, trail washouts and destruction of the suspension bridge over the White River - from the November 2006 storms and flood - make this route best done with a car shuttle.
