Shriner Peak Trail

Shriner Peak Trail Professional Review and Guide

"The old lookout cabin that served decades as guard against wildfires still stands atop Shiner Peak, though now it’s a historic reminder of a bygone era. These cabins-on-stilts no longer serve as the first line of defense. Today’s watch towers are much higher—satellites monitor lightning strikes, and if needed, airplanes do reconnaissance to check for smoke.

Shriner’s summit tower serves only as a hikers’ rest area with glorious views of the eastern reaches of Mount Rainier National Park, as well as the western peaks of the William O. Douglas Wilderness Area to the east. The trail is long and steep, but the views from the end are worth any effort to get there."
