Sheep Lake Trail

Sheep Lake Trail Professional Review and Guide

"A sidehill trail offers an easy stroll through meadowland to a delightful lake surrounded on three sides by cliffs. (I talked to a mother who was proud that her 3-year-old had walked three-quarters of the way and to a 5-year-old who had walked all the way, carrying his own small pack.) Kids love looking for polliwogs along the shallow shoreline."

Nice easy hike with many views including flowers (I visited in mid-July). Lake is very nice.

This is a fantastic hike for families. It is a short 1 1/2 to 2 miles to the lake with just a little elevation gain. A little snow still covered patches. Delightful little pond with wading opportunities awaits. I highly recommend the extra climb to Sourdough Gap. From the top you can see Mts. St Helens, Hood and Adams, as well as an easy walk to spectacular Rainier vistas.
