Ranger Creek

Ranger Creek Professional Review and Guide

"On a quest for the quintessential mountain bike ride? You just might find what you’re looking for at Ranger Creek. Combining every element of the “ideal ”ride, this course includes a couple of creek crossings, a long road climb, and technical singletrack with lots of roots, rocks, switchbacks, drop-offs, thread-the-needle gaps, and steep sides.

Some trail sections are smooth, while others are a little rough. Stunning scenery, elevation gains, and an incredible descent are just a small selection of what you’ll get with the Ranger Creek ride northeast of Mount Rainier."

This is one of Washington's "Epic" day rides. The day starts with a short but technical 2 mile stretch to get your lungs going a bit. You climb about 400 feet. Then you hit the fire road and you better be ready to climb. It's about a 6 mile climb, but the bulk of the work is in the first 4 miles where you gain 2600 feet. In total, you'll gain 3,500 when you get to the top. The reward is some of the most amazing views you'll find anywhere. Bring a camera and snap a few of Rainier. Hopefully you saved some energy for the trip down because it is really technical. Lots of hairpin switchbacks. You need to have your wits about you or you'll hit the deck a few times. By the time you're done you'll hit about 24 miles and have a huge smile on your face. Advanced/Expert riders only.

This ride was done on the best day of the year, 90deg, down below, 80 at 5700ft. This was an absolutley great ride! I enjoyed it to the max! Never had done it before. Long ride 5-6 hours total, but the views were worth it all. So do it on a clear day if you can. Oh thats right we live in Washington, so you might not be able to do that. We were beat at the end. This is a advanced ride with no pavement at all. 5 miles straight up then single rack technical. This was noble ridge, the same thing 23 miles. Have fun. I will do it again.
