Greenwater Lakes Trail

Greenwater Lakes Trail Professional Review and Guide

"A magnificent old-growth forested trail leads families past waterfalls along the Greenwater River up to two small lakes where children can safely play. This hike has scenic attractions at any season. Children will love crossing above the white water on at least three log and board bridges with sturdy railings. At the lakes there are shallow pools and islands to be reached on big logs. Shoreline campsites at both lakes are excellent but likely to be taken on summer weekends.

Begin amid giant Douglas-fir and cedar trees growing out of a mossy forest floor. In spring you may see trilliums, wild ginger, and yellow violets. The first waterfall is at ¼ mile and more white-water rapids and falls continue the entire way. Knobby cliffs on either side of the trail lined with moss and ferns are remnants of old volcanic activity millions of years ago."

Very easy trail for children. The trail is damp all the way up. Lots of places for the kids to play in the water for a bit. Lots of places to stop and take a break for the kids. It took us about 2 hours to make it to Greenwater Lake. Make sure to bring a change of shoes just in case!
A very nice trail leads you up to the Greenwater Lakes. Three log bridges provide superb picture opportunities. Trail guide is very accurate. Overall the trail was a low to moderate climb and very enjoyable. We continued on from Greenwater Lake up 5 miles to Lost lake and were rewarded with a much better view and setting. Many camp sites around this trail, some are real gems. Watch out though when going up the Lost Lake trail, quite a few trees have fallen over the trail and you will have to climb over or go under. Jeans recommended.
