Goat Island Professional Review and Guide
"Goat Island is the huge rocky summit that blocks views of Mount Rainier from White River Campground. It is easily accessible from the snowfields northwest of Summerland and offers an unusual view of Mount Rainier, along with some excellent skiing. Difficulties: High avalanche potential; routefinding required; permit/fee area.
Enter Mount Rainier National Park through the White River entrance and park at the Frying Pan Creek trailhead. Hike the Frying Pan Creek Trail, as for the Summerland tour, until you are due north of the 6,000-foot knoll (5,340 feet). Climb directly east for 0.8 mile, gaining the saddle at 6,380 feet. Turn right and climb a ridge northeast to the summit of Goat Island Mountain (1.8 miles, 7,288 feet). Goat Island Mountain
is truly an island, with no easy way off other than the route of ascent."
