Crystal Mountain: Sport Loop, Northway Trail Professional Review and Guide
"The NORBA (National Off Road Biking Association) Crystal Mountain Sport Cross Country Loop is one of the state’s most challenging race courses. The trail begins with a lung-tearing, backbreaking, thigh-burning 2.5-mile climb. It may not sound like much, but the excessively steep pitch quickly separates the contenders from the pretenders. It’s a good idea to take a few spins around the base area to warm up before heading up the hill.
Located on the northeast edge of Mount Rainier National Park, Crystal Mountain is Washington State’s premier ski resort. Although the skiing is fantastic, the main attraction may be the awe-inspiring views of Mount Rainier. Porcelain-smooth singletrack, sweeping banked turns, serpentine switchbacks, cruising through fields of wildflowers, trips around alpine lakes, supersonic descents, blood-pumping climbs, and inspiring views of Washington’s most recognized landmark, Mount Rainier, make this ride one of the best in North America."
