A sprawling lake with myriad inlets and fi ngers of polished granite, Spectacle Lake is indeed a spectacle, especially when refl ecting the shiny granite turrets of Chikamin Peak and Lemah Mountain. En route pass Pete Lake, a popular watering hole, and also rushing Lemah Creek, groves of old growth, and a beautiful waterfall—all on good tread and at a gentle grade. Spectacle is popular, especially with Pacifi c Crest Trail hikers, so shoot for a quiet week in fall if you can.
