Ruth Mountain

Ruth Mountain Professional Review and Guide

"Ruth Mountain is a magnificent touring objective. Of moderate height, its gleaming bulk is visible from much of the approach and its summit overlooks rugged Nooksack Cirque and the spectacular Pickett Range. The peak is reached via Ruth Creek directly, or over Hannegan Pass.

Ruth Creek lies in a deep gorge, headed at the east end by Ruth Mountain. Virtually the entire approach is exposed to large avalanche slopes beginning 3,000 to 4,000 feet above the trail. This tour should be attempted only by very strong parties and only in ideal conditions—when the snowpack is well frozen. Difficulties: High avalanche potential; glacier travel; routefinding required; permit / fee area; long hike out for monoboarders."
