Ptarmigan Ridge

Ptarmigan Ridge Professional Review and Guide

"This 3- to 10-mile out-and-back day hike or overnighter winds its way along a spectacular alpine ridge in the Mount Baker Wilderness. The open terrain allows you to walk as far as you like. With dramatic views from the first step, you'll hike under the shadow of the northernmost Cascade volcano in Washington and the equally scenic Mount Shuksan across the valley.

The trail along Ptarmigan Ridge is arguably the most scenic ridge walk in the Mount Baker area. Constant, glorious views of either Mount Baker’s vast fields of ice or the glacier-carved mass of 9,127-foot Mount Shuksan will accompany you right from the beginning and all along the route. Elevations en route are high, and the trail is generally not passable due to snow until late July or August."
