Chowder Ridge

Chowder Ridge Professional Review and Guide

"Chowder Ridge offers a wild, scenic approach and excellent early and late-season skiing over moderate terrain. In good weather, spectacular views of Mounts Baker and Shuksan and the American Border Peaks heighten the experience. A United States Forest Service–imposed “migratory goat closure” and deep snow packs turn this day tour into an overnight tour.

Before July, those with more time can bicycle or hike the long approach road. USFS plans to permanently close Wells Creek Road near the 6-mile mark. Skiers who love this area are encouraged to protest this decision. Difficulties: Moderate avalanche potential; some glacier travel; routefinding required."
