Tacoma Narrows

Tacoma Narrows Professional Review and Guide

"Famous for the 1940s film of the collapsing Tacoma Narrows bridge, also called “Galloping Gertie,” the Narrows is known for its tidal bottleneck effect. With Puget Sound squeezing through its mile-wide channel, currents can move swiftly.

In places 400-foot-tall bluffs rise from both sides of the Narrows sometimes creating a wind tunnel. The modern Narrows bridge has two spans 500 feet above the water. A Cascadia Marine Trail site is located on the west side below the bridge at Narrows Park."
