West Side of San Juan Island - San Juan Island Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"A moderate paddle along the rocky, rugged west side of San Juan Island past a historic lighthouse, with the chance to spot orca whales and other wildlife. The west side of San Juan Island has become a popular destination for kayakers, particularly guided kayak trips, and for good reason: It’s prime whale-watching territory.
Each year, from spring to fall, pods of orcas make their way here to feed on salmon migrating through Haro Strait, drawing with them an army of onlookers, from both shore and boat. There’s hardly a more exciting prospect than observing one of these majestic animals from the intimacy of a sea kayak."
