Hole-in-the-Wall Trail

Hole-in-the-Wall Trail Professional Review and Guide

"The power and majesty of the ocean waves here will awe kids. These waves are not to be trifled with. They throw enormous stumps and logs far up the beach and reduce headlands to gravel and sand. Explain to children how the block-shaped rock 2 miles out to sea, Cake Rock, was once attached to the mainland, but wave action has made it an island.

The walk down the beach to Hole-in-the-Wall, also carved by wave action, is a thrilling adventure for children. The Ellen Creek crossing at 1 mile can be somewhat difficult and hazardous if tides are high. Be prepared: Carry a current tide table. Hiking above the hightide mark is possible but more difficult than when the tide is low."
