Hoh Lake Professional Review and Guide
"A 6.5-mile one way trip from the Hoh River to the High Divide Trail."
--Erik Molvar, Hiking Olympic National Park (Falcon Guides).
Despite torrential rain, strong winds, and wet gear, this hike was beautiful. We saw bears with cubs, marmots, a 10 point buck, and two doe with fawns came to graze within 20 feet of our tent. Camping at Hoh Lake is a must.
The first 2 or 3 miles of the trail are heavily used by families and day hikers. Afterwards even on a weekend in August it is possible to escape the crowds.
The Hoh Rain Forest trail follows the Hoh River for approx. 9 miles before the trail for the Hoh Lake begins. On the Hoh River trail the best 2 camp sites are 5 mile island and Happy Four.
