Observation Road– Manastash Ridge Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Flowers galore and views unmatched. Wildlife abounding on the hills around you and in the air above you. What more could anyone want on a spring outing? The hike uses a gated road to lead up to the Manastash Ridge Observatory, operated by the University of Washington. As you’d except at a location where an expensive observatory station is placed, the views are
remarkable.

The entire length of Umtanum Ridge stretches out before you, and all around desert wildflowers—from bitterroot blooms to balsamroot flowers—abound. Deer and elk thrive on the rich vegetation and mild winter conditions here, and you’ll frequently find elk calves following their nursing mothers in these meadows. And be on the lookout for a thriving wild turkey population."
