Rampart Ridge

Rampart Ridge Professional Review and Guide

"This is a forest trek through ancient cedars and firs, with panoramic views of the wide Nisqually Valley and nearby peaks. There are also occasional glimpses of the snowy face of Mount Rainier, but the real beauty of this route is the wonderful local scenery.

The deep old-growth forest is home to an assortment of birds and animals, including ravens, red foxes, and snowshoe hares. Because it is on the lower flanks of the mountain, this trail gets its snow later than the routes near Paradise."

My son Kevin and I snowshoed this trail on a cold day with intermittent snow showers. We left Longmire and started to the left on the trail os shadows and we are happy we did. I think the trail would have much more difficult had we started along the Wonderland Trail. We might try that next time though.
