Turtleback Mountain Preserve, Orcas Island

Turtleback Mountain Preserve, Orcas Island Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Eschew the popular Moran State Park trails and explore one of the largest protected natural areas in San Juan County: Turtleback Mountain Preserve. Acquired in 2006, the preserve is equally as exciting and interesting as its more famous cousin on the other side of Eastsound.

There’s also the added advantage of attracting fewer visitors. Hikers in need of peace, quiet, and contemplation of nature will always find it at Turtleback Mountain Preserve. There are plenty of dynamic sound and mountain views to take in and bald prairies with stupendous displays of wildflowers, along with a beautiful grove of large, well- developed Garry oaks."
