Point Doughty on Orcas Island

Point Doughty on Orcas Island Professional Review and Guide

"Accessible only from the water, this little DNR Recreation Site at Orcas Island’s northwest tip has attractive madrona and fir woods, tide pools, and spectacular cliffs complete with a small sea cave or two on the north side. The Cascadia Marine Trail’s campsite has views facing south and west. (See chapter 50 for the map.)"

A great walk with lots to see. Check the tides at high tide it could be a real hard hike due to rocky walking. Even at low tide the walk is on small pebbles and soft sand. And always at a slant. very few areas of hard packed sand. Take a day for this walk so you can stop and enjoy watching the sea lions playing in the surf. Things to see on the hike include, Navy ships (escorting sub?), cargo ships, sea lions, birds(diving and taking away fish), cascades(pilchuck and three fingers!),olympics, vancouver island. I enjoyed the hike, but then I really needed to get out!
