This 20-mile Orcas Island drive visits a few exciting rural communities, winds around the shoreline of a deep fjord, and summits the highest point in the San Juan Islands—Mount Constitution. Special attractions: Moran State Park, Mount Constitution, hiking, fishing. Since the Washington State Ferry system is an extension of the state highway system, start the “drive” to Orcas Island at the busy Washington State Ferry dock in Anacortes. From Interstate 5, take Exit 230 at Burlington and turn west onto Washington Highway 20. Follow WA 20 for 16 miles to Anacortes. From there, signs will direct you the last 5 miles to the terminal, which is 84 miles from Seattle and 90 miles from Vancouver, British Columbia.
