South Sea Tac (Des Moines Creek Park Trail) Professional Review and Guide
"Set aside as an audio buffer zone for SeaTac International Airport, and later turned into a park, Des Moines Creek Park offers several miles of smooth, rolling, and twisting singletrack. The trails crisscross back and forth through an abandoned neighborhood surrounded by chain-link fencing and locked gates. The remaining landscaping has been left unkempt for all these years, creating an eerie, apocalyptic atmosphere.
The overgrown streets are completely devoid of cars and houses. Some of the trails ride through what is left of the foundations of the many homes destroyed when the airport was built. The park is directly in the path that pilots use for takeoff. Despite the noise produced by the jets, the riding is big-time fun for any level of ability. The terrain lacks serious climbing or hardcore technical sections, but it is loaded with banked turns, hairpin curves, dips, drops, and jumps. There is even a BMX zone, Fun House, created by local riders. Trail surface: Hard-packed dirt, pavement, and sand."
