North Fork Sauk Falls Trail

North Fork Sauk Falls Trail Professional Review and Guide

"Drop down a short trail on gentle switchbacks to a powerful and exciting waterfall, particularly torrential during spring run-off. Children will be eager to see it for themselves after they hear its roar. What they will behold is the falls making a sharp right turn to enter a rocky canyon. White water leaps up and children will giggle at the feel of spray on their faces. Hold hands and do not venture onto the narrow ledge at the bottom of the trail.

Viewing is fine from the stopping point above it, at least during periods of high run-off. The quarter-mile woodland trail has rails and steps to make the descent safe and easier. The river descends into a rocky canyon, and though the falls are not high, perhaps only 45 feet, their ferocity, particularly in the spring, makes them wonderful to see. Combine the walk to the falls with any of the other North Fork Sauk River hikes."
