Ruston Way Trail Professional Reviews and Guides

"This waterfront promenade is a magnet for Tacoma residents and visitors year-round, and with one visit it’s easy to see why. The views of the Olympic and Cascade ranges, Puget Sound, Commencement Bay, Vashon Island, and 14,410-foot Mt. Rainier make this one of Tacoma’s most scenic areas.

In Tacoma’s infancy, Ruston Way—then Front Street, where boatyards, sawmills, warehouses, and other enterprises once lined the waterfront—was the centerpiece of the city’s commercial life. Today, few relics of Tacoma’s industrial past remain. Instead, parks, public piers, six waterfront restaurants, and a hotel occupy this scenic shoreline with a
long promenade connecting it all. Begin the hike at the north end of the promenade and walk southeast (toward the port)."
