Ebey's Landing State Park and National Historic Reserve

Ebey's Landing State Park and National Historic Reserve Professional Review and Guide

"Ebey's Landing is one of the most spectacular and historically significant locations anywhere on Puget Sound. Reminiscent of the golden hills above San Francisco Bay, the high bluffs provide sweeping views of the water from the Olympic Peninsula to Vancouver Island.

Bald eagles perch in the trees overhead. And the long stretch of driftwoodstrewn shoreline around Perego’s Lagoon is any beachcomber’s dream."

We loved our picnic at the beach, the occasional train whizzing by, the abundant shells, rocks, driftwood for our beach combing. I thought the steep climb back to the parking lot would be a sure source of complaint from the kids (8, 10 & 12), but they were troopers! The portable toilets were clean and handy. We'll be headed back soon!

This truly is a walk in the woods in the heart of the city. Once you get past the parking lot at the top of the trail you could be almost anyplace in the western Cascade Foothills. There was evidence of natures power as a portion of the well maintained trail was washed out from the creek turned river this last Spring. The bluff from the washout is a great place for pictures looking up the creek gully. Substantial 2nd growth furs, maple and spruce with some of the remaining logged cedar stumps along the trail. They took some really big cedars out of this gully back when. There is a pleasant little County Park An the end of the trail and the walk under the BNSF railroad tracks through a converted culvert was fun. I was amazed at the numbers of people who descended on this trail at 7:00 AM when the parks opens. We arrived at 7:00 AM and when we left at 8:30 AM the lot was full and we had passed many people on this 2 mile + trail. Great little trail in the city.

Close to my place so it is a very convenient trail to visit on at least a weekly basis! It ends on the Meadowdale beach with a nice view of the Whidbey island...

I've been enjoying this trail for a couple years. It is a fun trail that leads down to a nice beach on Puget Sound. The trail ends at a nice park and beach access. There is a Ranger on site so keep your dog in check and please pick up the mess. The trail is great in the morning and late afternoon. It is absolutely a treasure in the middle of a city. You will almost feel like you've driven much farther. You will be quickly reminded you are still in the city however when you run into multitudes of runners and walkers. Best times to go are cloudy lightly raining days (the trees keep you dry)or in the off season if you want to avoid the crowds.

I took six Brownie girl scouts and two adults on this hike and it was wonderful! It even rained most of the time we still had a blast. There were little signs that told about the trees and the highlight was coming out at the ocean. It was beautiful!
