Grand Coulee Dam Loop Professional Review and Guide
"This 215-mile loop follows the Columbia River through the dry Columbia Plateau, visits at least 3 hydroelectric dams, traverses the Colville Indian Reservation, and returns to Chelan from Banks Lake over basalt-studded wheatlands. Begin the drive by heading north out of Chelan, and turn north along the Columbia River. Look into the skies southeast across the river.
There may be hang gliders soaring in the air. They take off from 3,900-foot Chelan Butte, south of town, and have been known to soar for hours over the Channeled Scablands that this drive traverses. Competitions and championships are held here in the summer. Special attractions: Chief Joseph Dam, Grand Coulee Dam, Colville Cultural Center, Fort Okanogan, Colville Confederated Tribes Museum, hiking, fishing, camping, houseboating. This eTrail is a complete description of a scenic drive with a route map and information on the best travel seasons, interesting sites, recreation opportunities, camping locations, and much more."
