Mount Saint Helens

Mount Saint Helens Professional Review and Guide

"Mount Saint Helens is an ideal winter tour because it is accessible, large, and wonderful. It is a good tour for snowboarders—gullies and wind scoops make perfect half pipes, and you can descend the fall line for much of the way.

Take snowshoes. Take money, too—the USFS has instituted a summit fee ($15) in addition to the Sno-Park fee. (A separate summer Trail Use Permit is required after the Sno-Park season.) Difficulties: High avalanche potential; routefinding required; permit / fee area."
