Pleasant Valley Nature Loop Trail

Pleasant Valley Nature Loop Trail Professional Review and Guide

"Pleasant Valley Nature Loop is indeed a pleasant and very informative stroll through the wonders of a mature east-slope Cascades forest. The route is paved all the way. Much of the forest floor is covered with vanilla leaf (Achlys triphylla), also known as deer foot.

There are some fairly large Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) trees in this area; many of them have fire scars attesting to a long ago forest fire. There are also a few large tamaracks (western larch, Larix occidentalis) here. In the autumn the needles of the tamarack turn a bright yellow and then fall off, leaving the tree looking dead."
