Sauk Mountain Trail

Sauk Mountain Trail Professional Review and Guide

"Exposed switchbacks ascend a dizzyingly steep alpine meadow to panoramic views of Whitehorse Mountain, Mount Baker, and Mount Shuksan and the merging of the serpentine Sauk, Skagit, and Cascade rivers.

This is not a trail for toddlers, but my children loved it when they were six, seven, and eight, and we returned to it again and again. Once one of them was bitten by a deer fly two switchbacks above me; I could hardly run uphill fast enough. She forgot about it, though, and later joyfully took her friends back up the mountain. The road goes almost to timberline, so the entire 2-mile trail is flower meadows, in season."
