East Bank Baker Lake

East Bank Baker Lake Professional Review and Guide

"While the East Bank Baker Lake Trail does parallel the shore of Baker Lake, this isn’t a true lakeshore trail. It is an old-growth-forest hike, with occasional side excursions to the lake. Because it stays under the forest canopy most of the way, it lacks distant panoramic views and stunning alpine scenery. But that’s okay.

There are plenty of other trails with those features. What this trail offers is immersion into an ecosystem that has become rare and precious—the Cascades old-growth forest. The trail rolls under massive hulks of ancient Douglas firs, western hemlocks, and western red cedars. The trees are hung with long curtains of lichen, and the ground between the trees boasts a deep shag carpet of moss."
