Baker Lake Trail - South Entrance

Baker Lake Trail - South Entrance Professional Review and Guide

"Along with offering superb lake and mountain views, this trail offers a brief history lesson of the area. At the start the trail passes through a stately forest of majestic Douglas firs that got their start in life in 1843.

How do we know that’s their birthday? Because that’s the year a small eruption on Mount Baker wiped out their predecessors. Amazingly, cedar snags from the former forest are still standing."

Baker Lake Trail is washed out about 1.5 miles from trail head so I went back and tried Baker River Trail which shares the same trailhead. It's washed out about 1 miles from where it joins the Baker Lake Trail. The two together, however, make for a very nice roughly 5 mile hike along the Baker River(now roaring) and Baker Lake. Lots of beautiful old growth in the area and all in all a very pleasant couple of hours hiking.
