Taneum Ridge–Fishhook Flats Loop

Taneum Ridge–Fishhook Flats Loop Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Too often hikers forget the wild, remote country south of Interstate 90 in the Cle Elum area—perhaps because this is unprotected forest land, open to motorized recreation. But that’s no excuse to miss out on the rugged beauty of this region.

Majestic pine forests ?ll the valleys of the Taneum basin, and vast herds of Rocky Mountain elk (wapiti) roam far and wide through the region. This trail explores some of that picturesque country, taking you into the heart of the wapiti rangelands."

Amy & Mark Poffenbarger
"Ready to climb? Ready to careen downhill? Ride up one fork of Taneum Creek, up and over the ridge to an elevation of 4,200 feet, and then traverse Fishhook Flats before dropping down to the other fork of Taneum Creek. Depending on the time of year, be prepared for high-elevation snow or rain-slicked trail conditions and loads of fun!"

Fun ride that follows the Taneum creek up to Fishhook Flats, which has some of the better singletrack trail in the area. Be prepared for many stream crossings, which makes it difficult to break at times. Also be prepared for a few sections with wet rocks and tree roots. But overall, this is a fun trail to ride.
