Rachel Lake and Rampart Lakes

Rachel Lake and Rampart Lakes Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The Alpine Lakes Wilderness area includes more than 700 lakes, ranging from deep tarns to shallow ponds. Rachel Lake and Rampart Lakes are fine examples and easily accessible. Rampart Lakes, above Rachel Lake, is a collection of about a dozen blue pools with an incredible variety in sizes. The calm blue waters reflect snow and the numerous cliffs on the ridge they are named after—Rampart Ridge."

"Take this 10.0-mile hike of alpine lakes, ridgelines, and big summit views. The Rachel Lake Trail #1313 has always been a rough one. The trail bed is more rock and root than actual packed earth—a tangled mess full of trips and tangles, loose rock, and unstable footing. Over the years many an agency has tried in vain to find a better route to the lake, but thus far it has fallen to volunteer groups such as the Washington Trail Association to do their best to smooth out the path to the top. Despite their admirable efforts, the trail remains challenging to navigate." Read more
