Cooper River Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Thank goodness the Salmon la Sac area has plenty of roads because they keep the snowmobilers off quiet trails like this one that parallels Cooper River upstream to Cooper Lake. This route is occasionally used by cross-country skiers, but more often than not, snowshoers will find they have the wide, pretty trail all to themselves."

"This trail parallels a road, mostly out of sight. Ride if you will, but you and the children will miss out on some good things. A sylvan walk along the Cooper River leads families through old-growth forest land, some of which is owned by a timber company but proposed for a land exchange. Clear-cuts are visible across the river on steep hillsides. The trail leads to lovely Cooper Lake lying alongside the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. Children were wading and floating on inner tubes when we were there."

Beautiful long day hike along the river. It is a fairly easy trek with little elevation gain and the beautiful trees provide a good amount of shade. The wildflowers are especially wonderful in June and early July!

The trail was very nice, short enough for a good day hike with time left over to relax and have lunch or a snack at the clear and picturesque Cooper Lake. The trail is rated easy, but does offer some switchbacks and elevation gain and loss which adds some interest. Most of the trail does not offer much in the way of views, but sections of it run along the river, and at some points the trail opens up to gorgeous views of the river and access points for a quick cool down.
