Coal Mines Trail

Coal Mines Trail Professional Review and Guide

"A level, former railroad grade turned into trail that runs from Cle Elum to Roslyn offers children an easy walk through mining history. Relics of the lives of coal miners from the early part of the twentieth century line the wide, gravel path, and heaps of old coal slag call out to be climbed.

Apparently bikers also climb them, so be alert to user conflicts. But children will gasp at the hazards miners lived with and the stories of historic disastrous fires and explosions told in the handout tour guide. In the fall, the trail color is gold, gold, gold, as far as the eyes can see. Cottonwoods and maples line the path and their leaves will light your way."

Nice wide gravel path (converted railroad line). The old mining points of interests are all over grown so not much to see. Nice quiet path and easy walk, right around 11 miles round trip from Cle Elum trailhead to Ronald and back.
