Mad Lake

Mad Lake Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Enjoy miles of hiking through gentle high-country meadows and along a delightful river to a pretty lake ringed by pine forest and fl ourishing with wildlife. The Mad River country will leave you happy, but the Forest Service’s decision to allow motorcycles here won’t. However, you don’t need to shun this inviting corner of the Entiat Mountains. Motorcycle use is moderate and practically absent during the week. And there’s a window of motor-free (and horse-free) roaming from snowmelt until mid-July, when only hikers and wild critters are permitted to play in this enchanting backcountry."

I've only ridden to Mad Lake from the north, which follows a different trail. I'd recommend that option, versus the one described here. Here is my review for that version: We did it as an out and back ride, although it can be done as a loop. If done this way, it's all singletrack trail, and is generally in good condition. The scenery and views are awesome. The trail takes you back to Mad Lake, which gets very littel traffic, even during peak summer weekends. If you make it out here, I highly recommend that you explore some of the other trails in the region, including Chikamin Creek and Alder Ridge, both of which are nearby.
