Placid Lake and Chenamus Lake Trail

Placid Lake and Chenamus Lake Trail Professional Review and Guide

"Two warm, shallow woodland lakes await at the end of a short, level trail in the Indian Heaven Wilderness. Good wading beaches will appeal to children, and camps are available in the meadows surrounding both lakes. But because they are so close to the road, they get heavy use; best not to count on finding a campsite, but rather enjoy either or both lakes as dayhikes with your children.

Begin on a wide, level trail under shady, old-growth trees, among such plants as bear grass, vanilla-leaf, and tiny wild strawberries. Placid Lake comes up quickly, and you will find kids taking off their shoes before you can say a word. Wading is a little muddy in the shallow lake, but children love it anyway."
