Wildcat Trail and Beyond

Wildcat Trail and Beyond Professional Review and Guide

"A mere ferry ride away for mountain bikers in the Seattle/Tacoma area, the Wildcat Trail makes a great afternoon getaway. Entirely on singletrack, except for a few road crossings here and there, the trails on Green Mountain are a blast, only occasionally technical, and offer a great workout.

Local groups keep these trails in excellent condition. Beginners may have a hard time with some of the climbs, but more experienced riders will definitely enjoy the ride."

I've driven past this trail head many times and hadn't gone. Today we decided to bring our dog out and I'm glad we finally decided on it. We hiked the trail and even though it was a weekend and during afternoon it wasn't that packed. The trailhead parking says you need a permit but we had no problem since we were only there for a few hours. The guide for this trail can get kind of confusing at around the 2.7 mi point as once you get toward the campground there are many different directions to take off on. Crowd wasn't too much of a problem we saw a few bikers and a couple people using dirt bikes / ATVs but all in all it was less crowded than some trails on the Seattle side of the sound. The views at the 1.5 mi point and out toward the vista are beautiful. It was a little hazy this time though as there was a forest fire recently that they were letting jus burn out (no where near the trail) but left some smoke. Could still see Seattle pretty well as well as some spots where you can see up toward Silverdale and Poulsbo. The early on parts of the trail are pretty steep as the guide suggests so if you plan to go up w/ mountain bike be prepared for the pretty steep grades.
