High Pass Trail

High Pass Trail Professional Review and Guide

"Follow a no-nonsense trail to a high shoulder (hence, High Pass) on 7868-foot Mount Larrabee. Once the domain of clambering miners, now clambering climbers, High Pass offers a quieter alternative to nearby Winchester Mountain. The views are just as grand, the wildflowers just as splendid, and the opportunities for exploring old mines and talking to spirits from the past are better.

Enjoy good views into the deep, dark Silesia Creek valley, once a bustling byway for prospectors and bootleggers. Sunlight struggles to kiss these abrupt north-facing slopes. Consequently, snow lingers long here, creating potentially hazardous conditions for hikers unskilled with an ice ax. If the way is covered in snow, return later in the season (for an added bonus of ripe berries), and opt for explorations around Twin Lakes."
