Blaine and Birch Bay, WA

Blaine & Birch Bay, WA Professional Review and Guide

"Blaine is a small border town that has several decent eateries, watering holes, and overnight digs. Charter boats take anglers to nearby fishing grounds for salmon and bottom fish. Peace Arch Park has attractive formal gardens, a pleasant picnic area, and a picturesque arch standing between northbound and southbound lanes of I–5 as a monument to the peaceful border between the United States and Canada. The area’s main attraction, though, is a posh resort at the tip of Semiahmoo (seh-mee-ah-moo) Spit, across Drayton Harbor from Blaine.

South of Blaine, on the shores of Birch Bay, is a small resort community of the same name. This is a popular area for water sports and activities. The bay is shallow, and the summer sun warms its waters enough for wading and swimming. Because the bay is so shallow, minus tides expose miles of tide flats, making this one of the best areas on the Washington coast for digging big horseneck and butter clams. Along the south shore of the bay is Birch Bay State Park with fine campgrounds, a beautiful picnic area, and a long stretch of sandy beach."
